What I suspected all along appears to be absolutely true. He's going to take a long while IF he ever arrives. Doesn't mean he won't, just means he has to complete the process of learning how to play the position from absolute scratch in the NFL and that is a daunting task most air raid college QB's never successfully complete.
All the BS that he was the most NFL ready QB in the draft was blatant nonsense, but it fooled a lot of people apparently including the Rams. He was always going to be a project and his draft status should have reflected that rather than reflecting the next Joe Montana. So what we have now is a readjusting to where his prospects belonged in the first place. A project with some nice skills that "could" allow him to be really good if he ever fully assimilates to playing QB in an NFL offense. High upside but huge bust potential. That's him now and that was him before the draft.
Wilcox may indeed be right that he can't play, which is actually saying can't play like he needs to in order to be a quality NFL QB. Certainly looks that way at the moment based on what I've seen so far. He is not ready to be on the field playing. Maybe Wilcox believes he never will be. I think maybe that's where he's wrong.
Bottom line is we're faced with the realization the Rams botched the Goff investment. Most of the pundits seem to see that now too. But that doesn't mean they don't still have a worthwhile asset on their hands. I'm rooting for the guy. I like him even though he's not a very good player at the moment.
