Was listening to Mike Lombardi on the radio today. He was talking about organizations and how teams like the Patriots, Packers, Giants, Cowboys, Steelers are "football people strong" from the top of the organization down. They are consistently competitive notwithstanding where they land in the draft. He said you can't just keep plugging in a new HC like the Rams have done and expect changes. It has to come from the top down and their has to be a consistent plan year after year-in terms of what the face of the team is. He said it was telling that the COO make the announcement on Fisher and not the GM. He said that Demoff is not a "football"man but is nevertheless totally involved in football decisions. (Hmmm reminds me of the Frontiere, Shaw, Zygmunt days)
The most alarming statement from him was that no matter who the Rams hire as HC it won't matter because competitiveness comes within the organization top down. Not from the bottom up and he just doesn't see the Ram organization built with football minds like the above franchises. Kroenke trusts Demoff-a businessman much like Georgia trusted Shaw -a businessman. Whatever happens the Rams cannot just keep plugging in head coaches and hope good things come. The entire organization must change so that everyone is on the same page when it comes to a teams identity and then form a plan CONSISTENT with that identity. In that light Lombardi was very critical of the Rams recent draft. While he likes Goff and believes he will be a good NFL qb eventually he said that Fisher wanted the team to be known for its power running and defense. So he questions why did they mortgage the future will all those drafts to get a QB who never played behind a center in his career. To him that sticks out as a total lack of an organizational top down strategy consistent with what you believe is the identity of the team.In sum the Rams-compared to the Patriots, Packers, Giants, Cowboys, Steelers, lack the organizational consistency with a single game plan from the top down in terms of where they are going.
If what he says is true then to me Kroenke needs to become involved and let his people know what he wants from the team besides just winning. What he wants from his team in terms of what they are and then surround himself with people that act in unison to get there. I suppose the most simple way to put it is: If the Rams hired Bellichick but he was not on the same page as Demoff it wouldn't work like you might expect. One last thing: Fisher did NOT WANT to let Jenkins go to another team. Just another example of not everyone working "together".
Sounds to me that Snead is not long for the job either.
