We have seen a few QB's come into the league and start out well and stay strong. He doesn't have to "regress" and in fact he may not because as it turns out he isn't just good for a rookie he is just that good period. It is rare, but in this case it may well be what happens. He may not ever "play like a rookie".
When we think of QB's that came in and played well then come back to earth we think of the many so called running QB's who were going to change the game. Prescott uses his legs more like a Wilson type than a Vick. Meaning he is very crafty about it and doesn't take stupid hits..........at least from the little bit I've seen. Which isn't a lot since it's the Cowboys. But I've seen pieces here and there and of course the highlights and that's the general sense I get from watching him.
We also think about the guys who weren't running QB's that come in and struggle reading defenses because they never had to and weren't smart enough to do it anyway. Those types throw a lot of INT's and usually end up as short career guys and backups. Think Leinert/Boller and those types. Prescott isn't throwing INT's.
Sometimes we see a guy come in and he struggles a bit here and there but not for games at a time or in big stretches in one game, maybe he makes some bad throws or questionable decisions here or there but you can just tell the guy is going to be really good. Sometimes that guy ends up on a team that is loaded for bear and it pushes forward his development because he has talent around him to help get the best out of himself. That's what I think we are seeing with Prescott.
He's a totally different type of QB than Roethlisberger but the situation is about the same. And Marino is a totally different type of QB but also the same situation, he was drafted by a team with talent all over. I'm sure there are a couple of others too but those guys came to mind right away.
15 years from now there is a good chance we will be saying that about Prescott. I like him a lot. Even with than dammmmm Cowboys stink on him.
