I have been a Rams fan since 73. Even though I have been a fan in PA, I have gone to away games(Jets this year), trips to St. Louis for playoff games, New Orleans for SB. I feel I am/was a die hard fan. My fondest Rams memories are still as a kid. I love guys like Youngblood, Olsen, Cromwell, Slater, Dickerson, Mack, McCutchen, Ellard, Brooks, the list goes on and on. Those are the jerseys I buy. I never think you love your team, like you do when you are a kid. Obviously, I was excited for the Super Bowl runs in 2000's. But, I remember crying when they lost to Pitt in SB14 (I was in 9th grade).
What I am getting at is this............. I feel as we get older, we realize first and foremost the NFL is a business. The game has changed so much from when we first started watching it. As we get older, life starts beating us down, friends and family pass on, we have families to support, communities that need our help, etc. We use sports as an escape, something to forget about the real world for a while. With the exception of a few years, being a Rams fan has been extremely difficult over the last 25 years, it has been anything but fun and an escape. It actually gets extremely FRUSTRATING watching the same thing over and over. Let's face it, most of the Rams seasons have been over before they ever started. After a while, it does just feel like a colossal waste of time. I feel I care a little less each and every year. I made the statement in Sept, if Fisher is back in 2017 I am not watching. If I can't find something better to do than sit and watch the same thing week after week, with no chance for improvement, and being completely bored, then my life must be pretty sad.
Maybe this makes me a "bad fan"? But, it comes down to this, if it is NOT fun, then why invest so much time and effort in it?
