I definitely mean it

I started questioning why I bothered to follow football by around 1980. When you really think about it, it is a silly thing to sit around on Sunday afternoons to watch a bunch of prima-donnas with low IQs out there brutalizing each other. There is also the senselessness of athletes spending years building up their bodies and then going out and getting all the brutal injuries. Basketball was my favorite sport throughout the 1980s. I also started getting tired of the first version of the same old Rams and their lousy string of QBs that kept them out of the Super Bowl throughout most of the 1970s. Growing up in Tampa, I was intrigued by the 1979 Bucs team. Despite being a long term Rams fan, I had a hard time pulling for them in the 1979 NFC Championship game. My interest in the NFL and the Rams was reinvigorated in 1983 with the coming of Eric Dickerson, but the franchise was a joke and the support in LA was awful. I went to a few games out there, and it was clear that the fan support was lousy. It also sucked that they were playing in a baseball stadium! That was really degrading after all those years in the glorious Coliseum! Then we had the 1990s. My interest perked up a bit when they ditched LA and moved to St. Louis. Then it faded under Rich Brooks. Then came the glory years with the great Dick Vermeil. Mike Martz kept it interesting for a while, but it has been rubbish for more than a decade. I think the owner is a creep for the things he has done, but I would ignore that if he made the Rams into a winner. I liked the fact that they moved back to LA and have plans for a new stadium. I love the fact that they will be in the Coliseum for three years. But I won't be able to tolerate another year of Sustained Mediocrity, which is what Jeff Fisher is all about. I am tired of his sorry teams and the same old phony excuses. I might choose to follow a different team. Or I might do what I did after getting fed up with the NBA and just stop watching. That would be the wisest approach. Football really is a silly sport. It makes no sense to follow it. The only reason I have is that it was ingrained into me as a kid.
