Sounds like someone the players don't care to play for or have a connection with. Again, who's the last college head coach with little to no NFL recent experience who made the successful transition to the pro game? Jimmy Johnson - 25 years ago?
I don't give a damn whether the players "care to play for' or have a "connection" with our new HC, promo.
Both things are totally irrelevant to me. Couldn't care less about such crap.
I want a strong HC that delivers WINS.
One that will clean up the mistakes being made by rookies and vets alike.
One that will finally not tolerate stupid self defeating penalties.
One that hires competent asst coaches and then gets out of their way and let's them do their job.
One that demands effort, attention to detail, and results from his assistants and players alike.
That's what I mean by a CEO type HC.
And to answer your above question, just off the top of my head, Harbaugh did a pretty fair job coming over from Stanford to the Niners in his very first year. I'm sure there have been others.
