I don't think it's a concern because they'd have Mannion through 2018. 2019 is so far off and there are always veteran backups available. or you dip into the draft again. Having a competent backup you used a 3rd round pick on and that makes under $800k/year would be nice for this team.
But again if they re-sign Keenum to be the #2 I'd be all for it...
It's just a matter of whether you want to go inexpensive on a back-up NOW or have to worry about finding one in 2 years.
I would rather pay one now, frankly. It's that important, IMO. So far in 5 years they have started 7 different qbs. Bradford, Clemens, Austin, Hill, Foles, Keenum, Goff. Of the #2 types Keenum was the only one worth keeping. Mannion may be cheap but he is also inexperienced. And don't get me wrong I like Mannion (thus far.)
So to me the issue is 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. We will see what they do.
