With Goff, or Mannion, I would be very surprised to see anything different at all regarding his game planning and calls during the games. Put another way... Fishers sees a QB and not individuals... and yes, I know many will disagree with that vehemently. - - JamesJM
Well sure some are going to disagree with it. (More here are likely to agree with it though, and vehemently). To be blunt but fair I disagree with it because I see no basis for those particular conclusions (or, really, actually...premises). That is, in all truth, I don't think it's based on anything tangible. For one thing, I saw the offense be different depending on who the qb was--Davis, Foles, Keenum. For another, Fisher just does not give himself that much direct say in how the offense does things play by play. I mean, you can count on a basic formula---run the ball, rely to an extent on ball control passing, and set up shots and big plays. But when it gets to the details there's a million ways to do that particular combination of things. He even brought in a new WR coach to contribute to the design of the passing game, which is just another example of him relying on the expertize of his offense coaches.
I think it's just true that Goff wasn't ready so far. Given what he never had to do in college and has to do now (which is an extraordinary number of things), that just makes perfect sense. We do have a direct report as of last week that the coaches want him to cut down on the interceptions he throws running the scout team. (Throwing for the scout team, btw, is why he's the #2 and not Mannion. The #1 takes the reps in practice with the starting offense. The #2 takes reps with the scout team. The #3 basically does nothing. At least with the scout team he's getting reps using pro techniques etc.) My bet is when he comes in he does show some rookie tendencies but overall looks far more ready for the job than he did last summer. And once that happens, IMO, the doubts about whether a Fisher team can coach a qb will just evaporate.
Hold me to it, that's my bet.
