But they didn't expect to have any trouble with the Niners, they thought they were playing a push over and they were surprised at what Kelly did. They thought they were on a pleasurable road trip and that the Niners would play like they did last year. The same thing happened to the Vikings last year in SF on opening day.
If this game were in Buffalo we are talking something totally different. And the Rams just saw the Bills dismantle the Patriots. They aren't taking them lightly.
They thought they were playing a pushover? Being surprised, if they were, explains being shellacked? They thought it was a "pleasurable road trip"?
I think it INCREDIBLY unlikely that a team that hasn't had a winning season in forever, playing their long-time rival and once-again in-state rival, turning over a new leaf and a new stadium, thought either that they were on a "pleasurable road trip" or assumed the would be a "pushover." It's more plausible that they weren't quite ready for the constant no huddle, but not to the tune of 4 scores. And that obviously didn't have much to do with the offense's ineptitude. Over 7 games this year w/Keenum at the helm, and more than that going back to the end of last year, that 9er game is the outlier - though we don't exactly have an offensive juggernaut on our hands.
I think Fisher has it right - prepare and execute best you can, play, study film and learn from your mistakes and your successes, and move on to the next one.
