Sounds like somebody is playing a @#$%& mind game. Merlin Olsen once said back in the day when the Rams beat the 49ers all the time that the 49er players would ask them how they (Rams defense) knew what was coming. Olsen said he would just give them a wink and smile.
They didn't know but they let the 49ers thing that they were tipping plays.
