I don't know for sure what it is, but the Rams are in an unusual situation. Much more so than it's the media making stuff up.
For one, it's unusual for a #1 overall QB pick to not be the opening day starter. There is supposedly a reason the team drafting a QB #1 is doing so. In the Rams' case, they aren't a 2-14 team by record, but their offense was as bad or worse than any of those other teams drafting #1 overall. So realistically, they need better QB play.
Also, why wasn't Goff getting more reps and snaps during the preseason? Does anyone actually believe that the Rams would have been in the playoffs twice had Keenum been starting the last few years? What is that propaganda all about? Who is Snisher trying to convince? If Keenum is actually a playoff QB(at least in their minds), why trade away so much for a guy that is just going to sit? Keenum is only 28 so if he's that good, why not build around him and give him the weapons and protection to keep being a playoff QB for the next 5+ years?
So, has Goff actually been struggling? Has he intentionally been held back? Why wasn't he being fast-tracked? Because there IS a difference between fast-track and too soon.
No, this isn't some misdirection while everything's just peachy with Goff. Realistically, Fisher is following the Mike Nolan model. In '05, he started Rattay over Alex Smith and really didn't do Smith many favors while he was the coach. That's a problem IMO.
