The idea that somehow Goff is a bust borders on ludicrous.
Don't get me wrong: I have no idea whether we have Joe Montana, Sam Bradford II, or David Carr at this point. But neither does anyone else.
But to label ANY player a bust after 1 training camp and 4 preseason games?
Goodness, did you WATCH any other those games?
Goff has an arm and accuracy like few have. Hue Jackson believing Goff was the top QB of the draft and the only one worth the top pick carries weight with me. This guy knows more about offensive football than you, me, and every poster on this board put together.
Where Goff primarily struggles right now is deciphering what he's seeing quickly enough.
Here's the reality:
1) His drops from Center are very inconsistent. Sometimes he overstrides with the 1st step, sometimes it's too small. So he doesn't get consistent depth, nor does it take a consistent amount of time in his drops....so the timing isn't there. And it's why he's operating so much from the shotgun.
2) Clearly he's thinking and not reacting.
3) Of course he knows the playbook but not from the sense that its like his first language. If you've ever tried to learn a 2nd language, you know that for the longest time what you are mentally doing is translating it into your first language, so that slows the process. Finally, if immersed into that language long enough, you stop translating and start thinking in that language.
4) He doesn't have WRs that can help him out. Our WRs are right near the bottom of the heap. So even perfect passes aren't guaranteed to be caught. That really messes with a young QBs confidence.
