Fisher and his assistants (Weinke/Boras) must have known from the day they drafted him that they might not be equipped or experienced enough to put him in a position to challenge CK in his rookie debut.

I just completely disagree with that. These are all opinions of course but here's mine---I don't think that what you just described is remotely the reality.

For one thing, the reason Goff right now doesn't (yet) look better than Keenum and Mannion is because the latter 2 have already benefitted from their coaching to a greater extent than he has because they have been with the Rams longer.

The mistake people make with Keenum btw is that they judge him entirely on the basis of his average physical skills. What that misses is that his strengths are intangibles and mental stuff---and he knows a complex offense inside and out. He is fluent in it. He is a very smart, and game smart, player that way. Certainly the best #2 qb the Rams have had in years and years.

I like the way Cosell put it. Goff is being asked to play Mahler, not Mary Had a Little Lamb. This offense includes audibles, calling protections, and sight adjustments where the qb has to be on the same page with the WRs depending on both pre-snap and post-snap reads. He is OBVIOUSLY struggling with that because it's a lot. BUT once he is fluent in it I am confident it will show.

When Goff is up and running, I am convinced he will at the very least be a very good one. That's my best hunch from watching him. But the Rams did not simplify things for him the way Dallas did for Prescott.

..

Well zn if you read the entirety of what I posted I thought the part you quoted of what I said should have been an obvious cynical statement..

Of course every NFL professional coaching staff believes they are equipped to handle and teach a player to be the best he can be as quickly as possible... I was not trying to portray that as a remote reality for anyone that read the entire context of the post.

I also wrote this comment..

Or maybe they quietly knew all along in their scouting that JG was going to need a redshirt year but obviously would never expose that mindset to the media after moving from so far back up to the #1 spot.

and this comment

To be fair to Fisher and his offensive assistants and so I don't sound like I'm some message board qb whisperer, JG may be a slower study than I projected and its much more on him than the coaching staff. Its possible that JG just never was going to be ready his rookie season no matter who the coaching staff or team that drafted him was.

I thought what I said was very fair and balanced with a small sprinkle of obvious cynicism in the only part that you chose to quote...

I'm on record as a Fisher supporter but I have my doubts about Wienke and Boras ( who are both Fisher's guys) based on their experience at their respected titles when it comes to JG. I could be wrong as I stated in my post.

Both of these coaches combined have less than 2 years at their NFL current coaching positions so it makes for valid skepticism...

The jury is still debating a verdict on both of them and they will get their due credit if Keenum has a breakout season, though it will always be wondered if they had the pedigree to bring along a young 21 year old spread formation quarterback the franchise traded up so far to get.

Well okay, that's a fair response.

Personally I am not skeptical about the coaches. There's not that much any of us know so far, but, to me, there are already signs that they are good ones.

Again, I think the Rams unlike others just had Goff learn a more complex system from top to bottom. They didn't install him as a rookie starter and then cut things back for him. What I see is a kid who is thinking too much while, as Cosell said, playing Mahler for the first time.
