One of the supposed advantages of taking Goff over Wentz was that Goff played vs. better competition and therefore would be more "Pro-Ready". Even with Wentz having a rib injury, I watched him in preseason vs. Tampa. Despite the interception, he at least already knew how to take a snap from center and seemed to be in command of the offense and handled many situations - bad snap turned into almost a first down pass, stepping up in the pocket, etc.... Watch the film. This vs. Goff who is tripping over his own feet and looking overwhelmed more often than not.
Time will tell, and I'm not declaring a winner of this draft based on a couple pre-season games, but I feel like the eye test is usually a good indicator.
I'm mainly questioning if it's valid logic that playing in a spread offense against tougher talent will prepare you more than playing in a pro-style offense for a smaller school?
Wentz, IMHO, can start right away, if needed. Goff, looks to be a year off. Again, not predicting who will be the better QB long term, and not panicking, but I think is reasonable to be a little concerned with our horse at this point.
If you are going to trade 2 years of draft picks away to move up to #1, I'm thinking you not take the guy that has never taken a ball under center and clearly, in retrospect, had no shot at starting the season.
...unless your owner gave you 8 years to be successful and you had all the patience in the world and no sense of urgency.
The whole "pro ready" thing was a media catch fraise in the Goff vs Wentz debate.... It came down to actual talent IMO, Goff has more arm talent then Wentz and yes, he did play against much tougher competition and that was a factor in evaluations... But as far as "pro ready" it would prolly been Wentz as Cal's offense is the furthest thing from what a pro offense looks like.
Wilson has said that's why he chose Wisconsin to play because it was a pro style offense and helped him be more prepared for the pros....it worked out pretty good for him.
This is not a shock to the Rams that Goff isn't ready yet, trust me.
