PHDram
I'm doing this from memory but I'm fairly certain the rams released him in 2015 as an erfa so anybody could sign him.
And I believe he signed this year on the first day so obviously other teams had an opportunity to sign him. Moreover while he may want to be a ram like all players he would follow the money if he got a better offer.
Don't get me wrong I want to believe in him but the actions of all other NFL teams give me pause.
The didn't tender him in 2015, and he was visiting the Chiefs when he agreed to the Rams contract. But that was before he was a starter. No one knew anything about him except what they saw in 4 games as a replacement in 2013. Plus he was hurt in 2014. In 2016, if they were going to sign him on March 9 (as they did), since that's day 1 of free agency, both sides would know about the contract offer in advance.
So really there was nothing to look at in 2015. He had at that point started 4 games in 2013 and that's it. In 2016, signing on day 1 of free agency would mean he elected to not sit and see what the market would do. It was his choice to sign or not sign at that point, and the upshot was, he never let himself become a free agent.
JT has remarked more than once that he was their highest graded starter on the OL in 2016.
