The issue about Goff isn't the obviously superior arm talent.
The issue is that a rookie can only absorb so much, so fast.
Don't kid yourself. Rookie QBs have their playbooks cut way down when they start.
There is no way for them to get it all in a matter of a few practices.

Could Goff play game 1 and muddle through? Sure.
But why do that when we have a guy who can do it better right now.

And situations are different. The Rams are young on the oline.
They are extremely under-talented at the WR positions. There is no WR is help Goff out; our QB has to help THEM out.

So the bottom line is that as it stands today, Keenum is better equipped to run the FULL offense, deal with subpar recievers, get the ball out quicker,recognize defenses, etc. than a rookie QB. So other than some dictum that says (erroneously in my view) that if you pick a QB #1 in the draft that he must be so good the moment he gets off the bus that he surpasses a still ascending young vet and thus starts game 1, there is no good reason to force Goff into action until he's had more time to get ready for one of the hardest jobs in sports.......at 21 years old to boot.

We of course see rookies start for other teams, but their situations are different. Look at Tampa for instance. They had a veteran Oline along with 2 All-Pro class WRs. But, they had bubkus for QB in Glenn. So they drafted Winston #1 and he was the starter the minute he showed up for camp.

Luck had good WRs and a so-so Oline when he came in as a rookie and there was no QB there to run things in the meantime. He was the starter the minute he showed up for camp.

That is not the case for the Rams.
