I appreciate all different types of views. Myself I have no idea if the D will be worse or improved.
I'm curious about your perspective though. How do you know that Ogletree is not near to JL in being the QB of the defense? What do you base that on? I haven't heard from any TC reports that Ogletree is struggling getting people lined up so why would we assume that he will?
I too believe that the secondary will decline. Both Jenkins and McLeod will be missed. However, if Gaines is healthy I'm optimistic that he'll make the loss of Jenkins negligible. I'm just concerned about his health.
IMO, it's the loss of McLeod that will be felt.
My thinking of Ogletree is primarily from posts on this forum from knowledgeable people, he has been perceived as somewhat confused to start the season. This may all be moot as the season progresses and he finds his way, I could see where it could be a difficult transition from being the player hearing how you need to lineup, to being that player seeing the offensive formation and quickly deciding how you need to have your defense lined up.
Losing three starters won't improve the D, may not show too much of a decline, OTOH it could be noticeable, I don't see any improvement though. One game is not an indication of a season, but they looked terribly unprepared and lost last week. Those starters on D have not been replaced, Gaines will help, but he isn't Jenkins, agree that the loss of McLeod will be felt.
