First let me say that I'm NOT optimistic about the Rams season. Until the Fisher era ends, mediocrity well reign.
But these reports from some of the journalists is way too critical considering this is preseason game 1.
That said, I thought that offensively the Rams played pretty well.
I zeroed in on the Oline and they did fine. GRob played more under control than I've ever seen him. The only time our QBs were really pressured was with blitzes.
Our TE play was very good. Our WR play was exactly what I expected.....subpar. I can't imagine Quick making this team. He remains so inconsistent. Cooper better start holding on to the ball or he's going cause some concern (that said, he could be our KO return guy). The one bright WR star was Spruce and he's going to be a player in this league from game 1. Such savvy from a young guy.
We have an excellent stable of hard running RBs. Little worries there. Forget Tre Mason.
Keenum played fine.
Mannion played shockingly well, but it was against 2nd and 3rd team defense. But you can only play against who's out there.
The hand wringing over Goff I don't get. I've rewatched the Goff series' twice. He played just fine. He had at least 3 out and out drops (2 by Cooper). His sacks were on blitzes and at least one was purely his fault (he didn't see the guy coming from his right and there was no blocker available to pick him up.....he needed to get rid of the ball).
Our Defense didn't play well, but this is a veteran D and they are not gonna put out much effort in preseason. Their goal is to stay healthy and slowly round into shape. Really, about the actually open position on the D is at FS. I think provided Gaines is healthy, he'll start at CB. Joyner won't be a starting CB. Every other position, except perhaps for a couple of depth positions, is decided.
