A lot of the history of this board is gone now, so we are no longer able to refer back to some integral posts from evaluation season.
But....
~ He has no experience in a pro style offense
~ Needs development with the mechanics of dropping back from under center
~ His ball placement in short areas is not great
~ He gets frenetic in the pocket moving around to much, compromising o-line leverage at times
~ Limited experience reading coverages I watched tape where he misssed simple cover 2
~ Timing and anticipation is an issue. I don't think he's that accurate consistently
None of these things are new from me. I've discussed them with even the most ardent Goff supporter on the board.
So I didn't expect him to be ready at this point..
All the concerns about coming from that college system are flashing brightly, but the one thing I think that could make him different from the last guy they tried this on and crashed and burned with is I have a different assessment of the bullet in red. Goff has MUCH better feet and pocket presence. His nimble feet and ability to feel and avoid pressure while keeping his eyes downfield at Cal is the main thing that gives me hope he can defy the odds and develop into a good NFL QB....eventually. He has an uphill climb, though, as do all QB's that have been developed under the likes of Sonny Dykes rather than a college coach and system that would have actually prepared them to play in the NFL.
