Sometimes, I just want to smack my forehead.
A naive police officer once asked famed criminal Willie Sutton why he robbed banks. His answer? Because that's where the money is. Duh.
It's the same for why the Rams drafted Fiske. They needed a DT that could work in tandem with Verse. So what better than to draft both Fiske and Verse who together as FSU teammates dismantled otherwise excellent D1 college offenses? Duh. It's not complicated.
Snead said it. McVay said it. Jourdan has repeated it. But, it's like they never said it or no one wants to believe it.
The Rams believe that Fiske and Verse TOGETHER can nearly equal 1 Aaron Donald, at least in production.
Are they right? That's what we're all going to find out over the next couple of years.
For the Rams, paying next years 2nd round pick to move up to get Fiske was merely the cost of doing business. Something Snead has never shied away from like other teams tend to do. Instead, football pundits want to wave draft charts as though they are Holy Scripture or determine a player's actual value to the team that drafted him. Would a team that had NOT drafted Verse found Fiske as valuable? Probably not, and more likely would not have evaluated the matter in terms of drafting them as a tandem, as opposed to drafting an OLB and a DT as distinct and unrelated entities.
