He was almost in my top 220, if he was an inch taller and 10 lbs heavier, he makes my list. @ 6' even and 228 lbs, he was just too light to put in the top 6 rounds. So I had a 7th round pick on him.
He's yet another high motor guy (beginning to see a pattern)
His Oregon St film was better, he had a few INTs and pass breakups, he got dinged at LSU so, kind of a down year
He has excellent range
A thumper
He is just undersized and struggles to shed blockers, def. not a stack and shed LBer. Drop him in coverage or keep him clean as a seek and destroy backer
And as a smaller guy fits into the Rams scheme .... and I think could start. I could be wrong but he looks very good to me. And it's not a high hurdle to earn 2nd LBer position
He looks like a undersized NFL LB but his hustle and vision on film is not be overlooked for a smaller backer that played in the Pac 12.
Many clips I've seen show him side stepping O-Lineman and knifing in to make the tackle.
I'm still doing film study on Speights so I don't have a true guess about how his college film translates to the NFL.
I will say that he looks like he's 200 lbs soaking wet but he compensates for his size well and makes plays.
He seems to have a knack for side stepping the big dog offensive lineman and doesn't get swallowed up by offensive lineman like many college LB's do.
I'm not an expert college undersized LB's so I will defer to JYB53.
I'm sure many of you have watched his highlight reels..
