Generally speaking, the closer draft time gets the more likely the rumors are true. Of course, some reporters are more reliable than others. I don't really know about the reporters mentioned in this piece. Furthermore, proximity to the draft does not always result in increased accuracy when it comes to these rumors. For example, in the hours before the 2012 there were reports that the Rams were going to trade up to pick Trent Richardson. Obviously and thankfully this never happened. Although maybe that's because the Browns took him so early. On the other hand, in 2013 there were lots of reports that the Rams were working the phones in order to trade up and take Tavon Austin and that is exactly what ended up happening. Moral of the story? Something might be up, OR this could all be nothing.
