Yeah, Berendsen, you and i have been harping about sound tackling for... how long?
Pete Carroll's video should be a must watch for anybody remotely interested in football. The object switched, a couple of decades back, to make the highlight reel Dive shoulder and head first at the ball carrier. Never mind wrap and bring down, or wrap and drive through. In an old Fred Dryer highlight video you get to see one classic, well-executed tackle after another. If all he had to grab was ankles after stretching out to grab them, he grabbed them.
Tackling can be taught. Carroll drilled his D's on it throughout the season as a head coach.
As to zero picks until going to Colorado and picking off three: Wasn't his coach there a pretty good D-back himself, famous for pick-sixes? Looking for the ball and playing it can be taught, too, if the guy has an aptitude for it. This also seems to tell me the kid is coachable.
I'll be watching to see if the Rams grab him on day 2.
