The curious thing is they seem to defy standard convention in how a draft is conducted.

They don't attend the combine. Rams scouts are very rarely mentioned when I look at articles recapping pro day workuts, occasionally being specifically noted as not being in attendance.. The web sites have only the barest info on who they've talked to. They haven't had a first round choice since the Obama adminstration. Yet, we've seen how it plays out on the field year atfer year.

There are two take-away's from what I've seen.

1. Typically their draft choices are described as "football smart", and often are team leaders.
2. Last year they said they put an emphasis on guys who "love playing football", overlooking the measurables.

It seems so obvious that you would draft guys who know and love the game, yet other teams haven't seemed to catch on to this.

A very astute post, 3030.

I might add that McVay’s assistants are superb at quickly developing the talent of these incoming players. That’s huge.

Acquire hidden gems
Make sure that they’re perfect scheme fits, not just media darlings.
Elite assistant coaches to turbocharge young player careers.

That’s a VERY potent trifecta, indeed.
