I guess I don't get the urgency for wr in the second, especially with our current depth chart. I don't see the impact that a edge, DT, ILB or even RB could provide. A Anias Smith, Coker or Bub Means could be taken in 5th or 6th and provide same impact this year. Where as a top 5 RB taken in the 3 could have a huge impact. And yes I think there is a difference between top 5 and the rest. Just to be clear I still believe 3 of our top 4 picks should be defense.
PS. I think Taj Washington in 5th or 6th would be great value.

Well first off we don't have very much speed at wideout. It is one thing for an offense to occasionally be able to hit their weapons deep when they catch defenses napping, and another entirely when you have the speed and threat to stretch the field consistently. When McVay moved Goff he talked about not wanting to live in an underneath passing game. He recognizes how hard it is, and how important explosives are to scoring and thus wins.

The position where the Rams have an opening is outside the hash. Assuming Kupp is healthy and there are no lingering concerns with him, what would complement our two underneath studs is a field stretcher. Now of course I don't think McVay wants a one trick pony or limited player in that regard. He will favor an all around game. But speed is paramount. Size is likely preferred on top of that but maybe it's not as critical as I have thought it was earlier this season. Thing is there are a lot of options in the draft, so why not opt for size if it's there. But regardless speed is required (and ability to beat jams as well for that X role).

Rams have an advantage over most other teams at QB. But if they don't have the weapons to take advantage of that then it is much less than what it should be. Why spend on a top QB if you're not going to prioritize a stable of wideouts who can give him open targets.

This draft falls right into their laps in terms of options available falling into their needs. Which is probably by design. Where they are sitting there should be a top Edge, LT, or WR prospect fall in their laps. For us, and as long as McVay is here, WR is a cornerstone position in many ways. It is of critical importance because of his focus on the pass game, and that's on top of the Stafford effect.

And last but not least if there is concern on Kupp and how long he can do the job then WR could possibly be a greater need than we think. Rams are very tight lipped on these things.
