I read her most recent Athletic article last night and am looking forward to listening to the podcast later today.
One thought I have had about the roster build this year is that, with the heavy (literal and figurative) investments in the OL I think the running game is mean not just to protect Stafford but to play a bit of "keep away" from opposing offenses. They might be trying to really maximize time of possession (TOP). Just a thought.
My guess (hope?) is that defense is 3 of their top 4 Draft selections- with WR being the exception. Pass rush is what matters- wherever that comes from- and so yes, it's not necessarily about replacing AD specifically but about generating more consistent pass rush period. That most likely happens with an Edge rusher like Latu.
I still don't dismiss the possibility, though, that if the top Edge guys are off the board that they'd move back a few spots for a guy like Newton. That's very possible as well.
And I also think, while unlikely, if the CB Mitchell fell to them somehow they'd absolutely take him. I get that CB depth is better than Edge depth in this Draft but he could be a cornerstone of the secondary and defense for years to come.
