As far as throwing goes, Michael Penix > McCarthy

March 08, 2024 10:32AM
Put me down as a fan of Michael Penix.
If the Rams drafted him I would call it a real good pick.
He could sit for a year/2/3 learning from Stafford/McVay and backing him up when as all QBs, Stafford has to miss a game or two.

Penix throws the ball as good as the best QBs (when given a clean pocket of course).
The questions on him seem to be what happens when he's pressured / can he process well?

With the Rams signing Dotson and I'm thinking drafting or signing another stud OL if Shelton leaves, he/Stafford would have plenty of time to throw.
In my opinion, if Penix has time to throw, he would do well in an NFL game tomorrow.
Other QBs (like McCarthy/Nix) seem to have to give close to max effort to get "zip" on the ball. Penix looks like he's playing catch in the backyard and the ball has NFL "zip" and nearly always a nice spiral - very impressive.
