Blinkscout WR Combine Analysis

March 06, 2024 10:58AM
Well, this is the best class of WRs yet ... but the WR0 tie is still in place with Fitz and CJ. Harrison had a shot, but you can't win if you don't compete. As a note, CJ wasn't going to run "but couldn't help himself" and got on the track to run a 4.35 at 239 lbs.

The 1st round and second round grades will get heavily into the 4th frame and likely into the 5th becauseof the depth.

Adonai Mitchell Texas 888 72.2 I don't know if any player helped themselves as much as Mitchell. 4.34 at his size, 41.5 vert .. and a history of acrobatic catches ... If we took him at 19 I'd be fine. I thought he'd run a 4.50. his 3 cone might be weak and his route running needs work, but he's my WR5 now.

Ainias Smith Texas A&M 559 77.8 DNP ... I wanted to see him here ... he's sliding ...

Anthony Gould Oregon State 517 73.9 Coming in I knew he's a PR and possible 4th WR somewhere ... that's really his ceiling I think. He's got that.

Brenden Rice USC 469 77.8 Okay so he'll be in my top 2 rounds grade wise, but that could mean he's easily there for us in the 3rd because he'll likely be in the late teens at WR. Smoother gauntlet than I expected, he didn't fight it ... he has battle mode with the ball in the air and after the catch. I also feel like he's faster than the 4.5 he put up.

Brian Thomas Jr. LSU 752 74.6 Cemented himself as the #4 ... could go top 10 IMO and in normal years would be W1 capable of going top 5. Measure him against anyone but Chase and he's top WR the last few years. I don't think he gets to us anymore ... can't see how he'd get past Jacksonville.

Bub Means Pittsburgh 610 71.1 Had inconsistent QB play but is a solid WR2 on most teams after a break in year I think. 19 reps, likes the weight room, 4.43 at 6-1 212 ... 40 vert. Contested catches ... on a normal year he'd be in consideration for Day 2 ... now he'll likely be there in the 5th.

Cornelius Johnson Michigan 698 71.1 I was not expecting his time, nor for him to have a good gauntlet. I have to watch some highlights now because I was pretty surprised here. 4.44 and a 38 vert was not in my mind on this. I'm asking for help grading him, here ... I had him as a 6th rounder and I can't keep hm there but does he break into the 3rd-4th round "grades" for me?

Devaughn Vele Utah 669 66.8 He drilled really smoothly, and while I wanted to not like him, I think he's a solid 4th with value in case of injury.

Devontez Walker North Carolina 534 68.2 Had a good gauntlet. He needed it. Whether teams trust his hands is going to determine whether he goes in the 1st or 3rd.

Isaiah Williams Illinois 702 79.9 This is your "slow slot" ... he's not going downfield, but covering him on 3rd and 4 is not going to be fun. 38 vert and 6.75 3 cone ... quick but no long speed. He has great hands.

Ja'Lynn Polk Washington 832 75.0 The secondary WRs all looked like Odunze in their uniforms ... and it's because they all move pretty similarly. 1.52 split should be faster than a 4.52 40 ... but he's quicker than long speed. Normal years he'd be definitely a day 2 likely even in the second frame.

Jacob Cowing Arizona 768 75.5 So, I wasn't sure if he'd actually be as fast as they said he would. Given that he is, you have to imagine him right between Tank and Tutu. Not as fast as Tutu, but not as good a route runner as Tank. I saw AZ games and have watched him develop. He's better when he's not the defense's focus.

Jalen Coker Holy Cross 523 90.2 First time seeing him ... not a bad day for a new comer. Draftable on a normal year.

Jalen McMillan Washington 362 70.8 6-1 200 4.47 6.9 3 cone 4.18 SS ... gotta think he sneaks into the second round. He's got hands, and hops and good tape.

Jamari Thrash Louisville 683 77.9 Has a lot of upside, but still can't see him going before the 4th or 5th round.

Javon Baker UCF 703 83.0 Normally a 4th round guy that could go in the 7th. I like him more than most and think that he's a solid WR2 in a couple years.

Jermaine Burton Alabama 545 80.1 Again did not see a 4.45 and 1.53 split coming. Lot of guys are going to be there in our 3rd round. 11-1 broad? Seriously? Also, he may work a sideline better than any player in the draft.

Jha'Quan Jackson Tulane 314 74.1 Thick slot. I don't like him as much as Cowing, but he's strong and has strong hands.

Johnny Wilson Florida State 459 76.0 This is a WR to me. I have followed him since his transfer, and last year I would not have said it like this. He worked on dropping his hips and strengthening his arms to bring the ball in safely even though they are huge targets. Short shuttle is exemplary. Vert makes him literally unguardable above the rim. My guess is he's on our radar.

Jordan Whittington Texas 557 65.4 Wish he'd tested just because I was curious. Love his game, likely the person you'd least want to tackle in this class. Special teams monster right out the gate. I want him to replace Benny.

Keon Coleman Florida State 672 70.3 Flawless gauntlet ... 1.54 split and 38 vert should be better than a 4.61. How far does he fall? Because getting him in round 2 would be highway robbery.

Ladd McConkey Georgia 239 82.6 Best route runner runs a sub 4.4? How does he get out of the first round? How high could he actually go? What a postseason. Like, how does he get past the Cowboys?

Lideatrick Griffin Mississippi State 531 72.1 I thought he showed well, but I barely remember his tape. ? Anyone digging him that can fill me in?

Luke McCaffrey Rice 746 80.4 TD machine. 6.7 3 cone. 4.02 SS ... 1.52 split. He's going to be a steal for someone. Kid THAT athletic that doesn't give up?

Malachi Corley Western Kentucky 556 82.6 Would have liked to see him there, think he's dinged, but his numbers are pretty known I feel. He's a 4.48 guy with good not great hands, but the best runner after the catch that I maybe have ever seen. 2nd round? 3rd feels more like it.

Malik Nabers LSU 707 93.0 I will be forever sad that I didn't get to watch a 3 way battle between these guys.

Malik Washington Virginia 765 91.1 Bursty and strong ... 19 reps ... but I wanted his 3 cone and he didn't do it. That was my question. He falls a way without that for me.

Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint Georgia 467 75.5 I have his tape, and he's not much slower than McConkey if at all. I'm eyeballing him for the 5th if we don't address it till then or if he slides further even if we have. Right now he's another top sleeper.

Marvin Harrison Jr. Ohio State 649 89.9 I will be forever sad that I dind't get to see a 3 way battle between these guys.

Ricky Pearsall Florida 785 77.2 Whoa dude. Hands, agility, toughness, tenacity, and then you go run a 4.41? Normal year he could go top 20. He's likely my WR 9 in this class and he would have value top 20.

Roman Wilson Michigan 561 81.5 I did not see on field drills, they got cut, and I wanted to see his hands. Can anyone fill me in? He could be late 1st to early 3rd depending.

Rome Odunze Washington 914 89.8 Kid stayed after to run 3 cones ... that's all you need to know. He's likely the WR3 in this class, but whoever drafts him will be committing larceny.

Ryan Flournoy Southeast Missouri State 545 82.1 This kid had a solid senior bowl and has done nothing but impress me at every step. 19 reps. 40 vert. 4.44 40 at 6-1 200. 11 foot broad. At some point someone will fall in love with this kid.

Tahj Washington USC 557 82.2 I wanted his numbers, but I can wait till his pro day. He's a 3 cone monster and his slot work and toughness will get him drafted.

Tayvion Robinson Kentucky 456 73.7 Wanted the workout ... he was the third best WR on his team so I don't know what I'm looking at.

Troy Franklin Oregon 722 84.9 He's too slight of frame for me, but his 3 cone was solid. Note ... imbalance in split and 40. 1.61 split is slow, 4.41 40 is plus ... this means he's still accelerating 30 yards downfield. Where in the second round does he go?

Xavier Legette South Carolina 636 82.6 WHOA DUDE. Hat's off to Deadpool for seeing that athleticism when I missed it. Also accelerating late in his 40 after a 1.56 split. Also, 6-1 221? Where on earth do I mock all these guys? 4.37?

Xavier Weaver Colorado 783 69.2 I was hoping he'd workout but I think he's injured? Late late pick or UDFA.

Xavier Worthy Texas 833 68.9 Way to go kid. I think that while he's light, he's thick where he needs to be and I've seen him battle for yards so I know he's tough. Is he gonna get a first round grade from me? No. Is he going to get drafted for that speed? Yes.

This is a great group ... questions and comments welcome
