I get the basic idea but it's so hard to decipher. Glad we have that kinda knowledge on the board.
See where is says "pick ups are based on area of release"
That just the way to say once the you know the routes
you know who you have man-to-man --- but that's kind of simple
So, to the 3 receiver side (left) it is quarters and to the right it is cover-2
left CB ---- he has the 1st route that is deep and outside -- if could be the Z or F or Y --- he does not know yet, they are in a bunch set
but whoever is ends up outside and deep is his ...
the Ni - nickel/star --- he has the flat, he has the 1st guy that is low and outside .... again the Z, F, or Y
the left safety has the 1st guy that is deep and in, say it's a post route or a deep in or an over ... that's his guy
the MIKE has the 1st low and in ... again Z, F, or y
theory is you have 4 defenders for 3 receivers and
on the right side
right CB --- if the "E" receiver (the #2) goes vertical, say it is a seam route, (CB reads 2 to 1) --- essentially it converts to cover-4 -- and if it is anything but that he has the flat it stays Cover-2 and he has the #1 receiver and would pass him off it he goes vertical and safety would pick up ...
the D = dime backer or moneybacker .... he has to reroute the #2 receiver and has anyone who is inside and under ... but has to read both the #2 and the #1 receiver on his side.
Right safety.... if that #2 receiver "E" goes vertical on a seam route he has that guy and the CB would have the "X" --- again, converts to Cover-4 --- if it is anything else it stays Cover-2
The "Check" is TRIX which means if the read is on and it's cover-2 but the ball goes to 3 receiver side the right safety can rob the left side...
This just shows how complex it can be .... but as you can see once each guy sees where the routes end up they have their man. In older zones, maybe like Tampa-2 whoever crosses your area is your man and often you drop them when they leave your area and when no one comes to your area you can have a guy "guarding green grass"
