I'd have voted maye, if - if that were among the choices.
I think we're OK with AJ, but we know what a solid brick wall at LT can do,
especially against playoff-level teams. That's before we get to price tag, and what used to be called the intangibles, but are now key components in the Rams roster building process: Character, intelligence (which precedes football intelligence,) and love of the game. I know nothing about Tyron Smith in that perspective.
If signing him or an edge in free agency (or taking care of salary after a trade) were an either-or choice, with money as the breakpoint, i'd say sign the edge.
But that's a pipedream because Snead hasn't left that stone unturned. It's easy for us here on the board to say, "The Rams should sign an edge in free agency." Snead says, "Which one?" The market is awfully thin and overpriced. Besides we still have a trio of young players who could break out in camp and fill that role opposite Young, plus the interior rush from Kobie and Aaron, plus the blitzing MLB in Jones - all in the hands of a new DC who will keep structures basically the same but won't hesitate to push the envelope within them or add new ones based on personnel strengths.
Better to draft and develop at the edge than go buy one, all things considered. Keep drafting CB's and if Mitchell is available, do it at #19
So yeah, grabbing a proven LOT (given the hedges I mentioned) seems like a good idea to me and I voted accordingly.
