My bottom line: AI is smarter than stupid people, at least as far as distilling and disseminating knowledge goes, (we're leaving the capacity to truly understand, or make moral decisions, or to appreciate beauty, or to love out of the discussion) but is dumber than run-of-the-mill, just a little bit smarter than average smart people.

AI can do anything (sometimes faster) that people can do better.

Case in point: AI got the horns right but can't match colors, or discern that gold sox would look better than baby blue sox. And we're (some of us) in awe. I'm more in awe of a totally man-made blown '57 Plymouth Fury. Or a beautifully designed and crafted Powell bamboo fly rod, or a presentation grade Beretta double-barreled shotgun, or the both/and instrument and music from an old violin. These things are magnificent. AI? Nyeh.

That's before we get to sunsets that speak of a majesty greater than our own, fairly shout it in silence, filling the whole sky over the crest of the jagged peaks of the Bitterroot Range that I see, if I just look up, so many evenings off the back deck of my house. I am filled woth wonder and humbled by that - not AI. Let's not get carried away with something we've so cleverly manipulated into place.

Hurrah for human beings! Let's not be deceived into thinking that something we've invented is somehow greater than we ourselves. We created AI in our image - or part of our image) and we in turn...
