Lance and Fields both ought to be cheap; they haven't done anything

February 08, 2024 12:27PM
This line of thinking that guys that have been in the league 3 or 4 years, and thus far get a grade of D or F, might only need better coaching or a change of scenery rarely plays out.

Who is the last failed QB for his first 3 or 4 years in the league that got traded and then blossomed? I can think of none.
I can think of guys like Mayfield who had mixed success on some pretty bad teams, and when put on a better team had better results. Or a guy like Wentz that did so very well, and then somehow kind of regressed (some of which is injury related), or hit a plateau, and think that maybe a different coach and system might help them to take a step up.

So, in the end, Fields and Lance ought to be super cheap vets minimum players and no more. Or maybe guys with the minimum plus some performance incentives. They simply haven't earned the right to be considered much more than long shots to succeed. They are what they are and to this point they are not winning football players.
