Depends I guess. QBs can last until they're 40, but it isn't common exactly. We've got Brady, sure. But guys like Matt Ryan and Big Ben were not the same guys by then. So in this scenario you'd be hoping that penix hit the ground running, which would possibly give you about a 10 year window. Likely less. And if QBs can play until they're 40 then why not let Stafford do that? He's 36 and still playing well.
As for penix's age. I've listened to podcasters who say you have to be careful about drafting older prospects because they're adults competing against children in college. They were saying this for all positions. At 23 your mind and body are for more mature than the 17-21 year olds you're facing. So that might actually be a knock on him.
