Isn't he going to be 24 years old when the season starts? And then I think Stafford will probably play out his contract. So we would essentially have a 27 year old rookie who is on the last year of his contract in this scenario. Little bit of risk there.
Suppose the Rams drafted a 21 year old QB instead: they would then have a 24 year old rookie on the last year of his deal. Talk about a RB instead of a QB then sure, I get it, with RBs often hitting a wall at 30. But QBs careers can last until they're 40 ... so is the risk really about a 19 year QB vs a 16 year QB?
Just based on age alone I would think Penix would be more mature physically and mentally than a 21 year old QB so from that perspective Penix' age could be a positive.
If the Rams think he's better over 16 years than the 21-year-old would be for 19 years I'd be OK with Penix.
