I'm a bit muddled by this writeup.
It empasises what the D backs did - as if they were great and as if Shula was responsible. As I understand it, Shula was not their position coach nor their scheme guy - he was the linebacker and pass rush guy. Those aspects did as well as the personnel available - when he had rushers on the roster they did well. Jones has shined and is a key player on the D - and he's a sound tackler. Did Shula coach that? (See my previous post.)
I'm concerned about fundamentals, especially tackling.
Shula's fit regarding defensive philosophy, management team fit with McVay and other staff, and existing rapport with players all seems exemplary and he'll have a jump-start entering the '24 season.
I'm excited to see what he does with it - and I want to see a no mistakes approach to the fundamentals, especially when it comes to tackling.
