Edge, CB, S, C, WR, TE, backup QB, PK. Probably LT and RT.
I think we're drafting 19 or 20 depending on the Steelers game.
Let's see what I got. Noting ... I would prefer to pry a CB away from a team getting cap heavy. Or an edge. Edge is less likely I believe, but Jacksonville may blow it with Allen.
Edge ... 1st round I don't think the top 3 fall ... but Chop Robinson will be there likely around that spot. After that I'd wait until the 3rd round. There isn't the type of talent I'd want in the 2nd ... guys are more true DEs and we alreayd have Hoecht if we need size.
3rd round I'm looking at big program well coached kids and high motor animals who are senior bowl kids. Braswell from bama, the two Michigan kids, Brennan Jackson from WSU and Adisa Isaac from PSU. One should be there, we may need to trade up, but all those guys are steady and can man the spot IMO. They should be plus starters in the league across from what I think will be a pro bowler in Young. Khalid Duke is my EW Shrine guy, with an asterisk for Edgerrin Cooper, who is sized like a chase LB but can really rush the QB.
CB .... this one is interesting, because there is a player I like at 20, and that's Cooper Dejean, also a great punt returner. But that would only be if we whiffed at FA.
The rest are middle round guys that are good at their craft, and again, Senior Bowl guys. Caelen Carson. TJ Tampa (who may rise), Max Melton, Johnny Dixon, Quinyon Mitchell. I also like the Tulane kid Jaylen Munroe.
S ... We can find guys late, because we coach the position well and know exactly what we want. 3rd round or later ... and really only the 3rd if we are not confident in Yeast, Lake, and JJ3 coming back. Senior bowl here definitely.
Beau Brade and Sainrstil are my tops ... and Malachai Moore if he comes out. Then Cole Bishop ... Tykee Smith ... Proctor. James Williams would be an interesting add if he slides. He's 6-5 220. Just in case we were in a division with McBride and Kittle. Kenny Logaj is my EW shrine guy.
C again, is interesting. the top dawg is SVP. And I'd be comfy spending a second on him were other needs met ... but the Senior Bowl has some serious players that deserve consideration, mainly the Oregon kid JPJ, Raym from OK ... and to a lesser extent Eguakan from UF and Frazier from WVA.
WR for me is specific. Only top 2 rounds. This class is top heavy, and value later is unlikely to be as good. But I do have a couple there as well.
So, at 20 we've missed the top 3, but Keon Coleman may slide. I'd take him. It's early for Brian Thomas the 3rd, but I'd take him there as well, though prefer with a trade down. 2nd round I'm looking at Tez Walker and Xavier Worthy. Otherwise, I'm really not interested. Get a blue chipper or a FA ...
TE is for later. The kids are getting better coaching and the TE position is full coming out of college. But they're not a huge priority ... so they slide. Hance Davis Allen. I'm looking at Theo Johnson, Isaac Rex (he coming out?), Holker, Wiley, Barner, Sinnott and Maclachlan. The AZ kid Maclachlan may be the best of the bunch but that just means other high quality guys slide like Sinnott ... who would be a steal. 6th round? 7th? Sure.
Backup QB ... again, an interesting year. After the flurry of backups taken last year ... do we have to go after them early? I have an attachment to a few of them. Austin Reed, Tanner Mordecai, Michael Pratt, Spencer Rattler. I believe all 4 have starter potential. Tanner Mordecai may be the best and may be taken the latest. Watch his bowl game.
PK ... all I got is the Mia OH kid here because of the McVay tie.
OT ... again interesting, because I'm looking for a high quality swing backup. AJ finished the season strong. Driskel from Marshall and Foster from Mizzou make that list. Brandon Coleman from TCU maybe? I think there are a couple small school kids with buzz also.
Chase LB Tyrone Hopper could be had late. Michael Barrett and Boogie Watson, Trevin Wallace, etc.
