Precedent also must be consodered.
The league's shady, gambling-driven legal resources in one corner, a few congresmen who waht to play hero plus the tide of public opinion in the other. Ring the bell - let the namecalling, garbage-mouthing, stilted argument bloviating fight begin.
I want to see this game more than any for a long time. I'm still not clear whether I'll be able to watch it, between 2 hours of commercials, on "free" NBC TV, or whether it will be shown exclusively on peacock. If so I'll start to sorta drift away...
I'm 82 and have been an NFL/Rams fan since I was 9. I love the game and the team, but I'm not going to pay to watch them, and put up with sub-standard and banal comentary, sensationalized camera work and editing that they cannot seem to overcome.
And for this game, going to town and watching at the local sports bar is out. Where I live in Montana the wind-chill corrected temperature today was -32 (yes, minus 32) degrees. I'm dealing with respiratory issues that will keep me indoors through this bitter cold instead of braving icy roads to hit the local sports bar/restaurant. Highlights will show me a few things, but cannot capture the ethos, the ebbs and flows, of the games themselves.
Sorry - this disillusioned fan will stay interested only to the point that he can turn on the TV on a cold winter's day, crank up a kettle of fresh local apple cider with cinnamon sticks and cloves floating in it, filling the house with their wonderful aroma, and enjoy a game of football.
For free, as I have since age 12 when my family got their first TV.
I might be subliminally induced to buy the NFL's chosen insurance or take-out pizza due to the onslaught of ads (but even there, I draw a hard line when it comes to using Manning instead of Mulvaney to hawk Bud Light) and I might, just might, buy some NFL gear. But not until I can again watch a full slate of regular season games and all playoff games and Super Bowl without charge. I refuse to subsidize any organization, save for the Federal government, that has set out to steal from me.
