You may (probably) disagree... but hear me out.... .. does anyone agree?
Consider the following:
Kupp is slowing (other posters have pointed this out, and I agree). Kupp is never going to be vintage Kupp again. Maybe, he's a solid 2/3 maybe going forward.
Tutu is a role player.
Robinson is a FA (I think) so we may lose him. He's a good 3/4 WR.
Skow is a terrible WR (no hands -- but good special teams guy).
The net of this: we are thin at WR and frankly, as a WR unit, it's good (but certainly nothing special).
Here's my main argument: NFL teams
have to be truly great at at least one thing to be successful. For the Rams,
that one thing is an explosive pass game. Reality check: The Rams may very well have both McVay and a good Stafford for only one more season. The Rams have to capitalize on that (short lived?) fact. And if McVay outlasts a good Stafford, the Rams need to team build to leverage McVay's brilliant pass game thinking.
Thus -- Snead's mission this off-season ("if he decides to accept it ... "
-- make damn sure the Rams surround McVay and Stafford with great WR talent. To that end -- the Rams need to draft a stud WR high (round one if we keep that pick, or round two) and/or grab one in FA. Pair the best ("elite"
WR we can find with Super Puka -- and have some combination of Kupp, Tutu, Robinson round out a very strong WR unit.
Note: This is not a one need team. I also think the Rams have to acquire 2-3 new, starting DB's, since conversely, teams can't be terrible in any one thing -- especially at pass defense in today's NFL. And the Rams presently have sub standard DB's -- the pass defense is simply lousy, especially when we need it the most.
I'm not as concerned about edge as other posters. I sort of like our guys and their upside.
