Only 4 games left in season, anyway, so McVay chose to go with Havrisik.
Crosby was taking up a valuable roster spot so he was a victim of the numbers game.
It’s possible, if not probable that Crosby disappointed in practice after his signing.
Havrisik has another 4 games to fully redeem himself and remain the PK for 2024. If not, they simply start a new search. The die is cast.
None of these explain why the move was made in the first place. If there are only a few games left and it doesn't matter, and roster spots are so precious, why sign Crosby in the first place? To push Havrisik to have a good practice? Folks can try to explain away or make sense of it, but it comes across as very reactionary. Not to mention we aren't just risking games now, but one crummy kick can cost us the season. Heck of a dice roll to develop a kicker...
