Let's say that on paper it's a $1.5 mil annual contract. The Rams would only have a hit of $500K, and then unless the contract is guaranteed, they could change again and that small hit will be prorated.
Look at Wentz's deal. $1.3 mil annual, only $150K guaranteed, and the Rams only pay of half of the annual since he was brought on board mid season.
No way he takes that kind of deal to begin the year. So, the Rams have to pay around $650K this year for Wentz.
It's all about timing. It's not like the Rams wouldn't have thought about those 2 earlier in the year. But, now the costs are so much more manageable.
This plays a large role in their decisions because it reduces the possible carry-over cap space for next year.
