He was a good player. Believe it or not his 186 catches from 1979-'83 were actually pretty good numbers for a WR then. He's still top-20 all-time in Rams' receiving yards and TDs.
I remember that Monday Night game vs. Dallas obviously. He and Ferragamo always had a good rapport.
Other Dennard memories that stand out:
- reading a 1982 season preview magazine that had a headline about how new Rams' QB Bert Jones couldn't wait to get WR Preston Dennard in his sights... He only ever caught 5 passes from Jones...
- scoring the lone Rams' TD (32 yards from Ferragamo) in the 51-7 divisional loss @WAS in 1983.
- a 1983 game vs. SF the Rams lost 45-35. Ferragamo and Montana list up the scoreboard. Vince had 5 TD passes and actually had a 6th bounce right off Dennard's hands in the endzone and into the hands of a 49er for an INT.
I hated seeing him shipped off to a really bad Buffalo team in 1984. He was their 2nd leading receiver that year. But actually probably would have had fewer numbers in 1984 with the Rams since they barely threw the ball. And the draft pick for him did net Kevin Greene, so...
