Hitting the guy the instant the ball arrives is NOT giving the receiver a chance to catch the ball. It has to be in the instant after its in his arms. But, as with others, if I was his coach I'd give him a high 5 and not any kind of lecture. It has to be amazingly difficult to time up, and I don't want to see guys not playing with their hair on fire. When mistakes of effort are made, say "oh well" and move on.
It was a good call. But the call on Kupp for pushing off a defender? Completely bogus. But, that's football. You have to be able to overcome things like that because the refs are humans, too.
