Here's the problem with 11 personnel. Since McVay took the league by storm his first season as the rams coach. Teams since then have been scheming how to beat it. And there are certain teams with Defenses made to beat that personnel grouping. IE Steelers, 49ers, Eagles, and sprinkle in a couple of other teams in there. Point is, McVay has no Plan B, or option in place incase his coveted 11 personnel isn't working. To me that's just bad coaching and one of the big knocks against McVay and how he coaches. Since he entered the league as HC he hasn't really come up with anything new and it's showing.
Again, I'm not advocating that McVay hang it up. I still think he's a top 5-10 coach in the NFL. But if he wants to stay there he's going to have to evolve, and give Defenses something new to worry about. Because at the moment other than some big splash plays between Stafford/Kupp/Puka the Rams look pretty stale.
