Speaking of FA, Snead will be hip deep in cap dollars to sign 2-4 premium FA’s at positions of need before draft even starts.
That would be a significant change to the Rams' roster building strategy. For a long time (7 years?) the Rams have shied away from signing any FAs that would affect their comp pick haul. They have tended to either sign guys who were cut by their previous team or they have waited until the FAs they sign don't cancel out a FA who departed in the comp pick formula.
I'm not saying that the Rams won't jump into the premium FA market. All I'm saying is it would be out of character for them to do so.
What would be a more likely use of hip- deep cap space:
- Sign some of their FAs (pick from this list: Dotson, Witherspoon, Maher, Shelley, Williams, Jackson, Fuller, Anchrum, Trammel)
- Maybe extend a player or 2 who will be FAs is 2024 (pick from AD, Jones, Brown III)
- Sign a few guys to fill obvious holes so the Rams have no obvious needs entering the draft.
Then, if the Rams look like they can make a run, Insee them trading away future draft picks for proven talent.
