the 2020 draft was abysmal after the first round. Take 2 min out of your day and tell me who you would have preferred.
There were 4 pro bowlers from the 2nd round. Jonathan Taylor, Antoine Winfield, Hurts,Trevon Diggs (all drafted before Acres and Jefferson except for Hurts).
2 from the 3rd round and one got on as a return specialist and has done nothing as a WR (Duvernay) and Jonah Jackson an OG.
1 in the 4th round. Biadisz, the OC I begged the Rams to draft.
no one else. And even if they don't need to be pro bowlers, there are so many of these guys that are out of the league or buried on benches. Was a truly poor year.
If that makes you feel any better.
I'd have preferred an AJ Dillon over Akers, but he's the style of back I prefer. Snead likes little guys. And I know we liked Vans route running out of the draft compared to Mims, but he's a beast. We also could have traded up a few spots for Swift, who had speed Cam only wished he had. I also really liked Cushenberry, but I've been lusting after a new Center for many a year now.
But we all know it's unfair to go back and do these hindsight redos. I guess this year makes us look smart, but some of these past years make us look... not so smart. And for all the folks that weigh in about the expectations being too high for where we pick, this year kind of blows that argument out of the water. Some teams string years of success picking last in the round, without making excuses.
What irritates me is passing on good players because we're worried about this "type" of player we seem to focus on. And we let good players fall because we focus on what we want rather than players that drop to us. I love Avila, but what would this team look like with Branch back there? Kids a top ten talent, but he wasn't who we wanted, so we just let him slip by.
Again, glad this draft seems to be panning out. But there were a few years, not just 2020, where our style of drafting seems to dictate bad output.
