I kept thinking:
Next year, he'll learn how to field a ball, left fielder chasing down a line drive style.
Next year, he'll learn to use his body to screen off a defender, basketball rebounding style.
Next year, he'll show us more of that 4.3-something speed when he accelerates after a catch. and be more deceptive varying speeds running routes.
Next year, when the game slows down for him, he'll play with more fire and intensity.
I've run out of next years with Van. It can't be coaching; other receivers have progressed. He's a fine young man and I wish him well. Maybe "I wanna be like you, dad" isn't his calling. The desire doesn't seem to be there.
