But Faulk was of an entirely different order

July 24, 2023 12:38PM
He was coming off of a season that I don't think any current running back in the NFL has ever had. Hold out is never a good thing........... but he had a different value because he contributed in so many ways.

Running backs like him are super rare. How rare? The list of guys who can miss two games because of knee surgery in two straight years and still pick up over 2100 total yards from scrimmage both years is one player long. Him.

He was the Jim Brown of his era, he was that much of a difference maker. I have said many times that had the Rams gone to the Super Bowl in 2000 that they would have beaten that Ravens defense because he would have been the X factor. How many running backs outside of Jim Brown and Marshall Faulk have that kind of an impact on their team.

Walter Payton. Emmitt Smith. John Riggens maybe............

But there is nobody else at that level in todays game, maybe not even since he played.

That guy gets paid. He had value, he was worth it.
