He's a really intriguing player with talent and a lot of what the Rams like in WR. If he stays healthy he has a solid future.
But I think predicting a guy taken with the last pick in the 5th round to be an every-down WR as a rookie is really projecting. My hope is he continues to show up well in camp, gets a lot of preseason reps, and lays the foundation for understanding the offense and being able to contribute.
Skowronek may not be a dynamic receiver but he's reliable, knows the system well and has the versatility they need to truly play every down and from multiple spots. And it sounds like Atwell will maintain his situational deep threat role. Not to mention the two vets they brought in- Robinson and Johnson. One of those two is likely to stick and again a late 5th round pick isn't going to leapfrog those guys by week 1 (or 2, or 4).
I understand your conservative position on the rookie Nacua, 93. And it’s a solid position, generally.
But two things stand out to me here.
One is that Nacua has been getting rave reviews. Not lukewarm praise but rave reviews.
The second thing is that Atwell and/or Skow haven’t raised the bar impossibly high. This 3rd WR position is wide open, I think. So, other than one of those newly signed experienced vets, who better to seize the lions share of 3rd WR snaps this year than the so-far scintillating 3 down Nacua?
