And in particular it shows maybe they want an appropriate player at that bottom depth chart spot, i.e. someone who contributes to teams. Instead of a guy like Hopkins who is on the roster for his pass game upside.
Us having a new Teams and TE coach seems to insinuate they are on the same page here. Or at the very least that bottom spot on the depth chart will be competed heavily for. Come the final cutdown day I would not want to be a TE who is only on the depth chart for upside vs a guy who can help on teams and also in a blocking role.
Writing on the wall on this: Hopkins is on the bubble. Not a newsflash of course and entirely predictable but it's nice to see it.
