Does anyone really care?

This article seems way off base to me.

Akers will be a RFA next year, and I suspect the Rams will place that second round tender on him. This year that tender is $4.304 million [www.profootballnetwork.com] and it'll probably be a little higher next year.

Let's say for the sake of argument Akers gets 1,300 yards and 12 TDs. Is that worth more than a 1-year, $4.4M deal? The market will answer that question. Even if the Rams don't want to pony up you'd think one of the other 31 teams would offer him a multi-year deal if he's actually worth it.

And if he doesn't get that multi-year deal he's looking for what's the point in holding out? He could sit out the 2024 season if he wants to, but then he'd be a RFA again in 2025 and be a year older with a year's rust to knock off. What kind of leverage is that?

Akers' situation is entirely different than what Jacobs and Barkley are going thru. They have been franchise tagged and can only negotiate with one team. Akers will be able to negotiate with all 32 teams. If no one offers him a multi-year deal what makes anyone think that holding out will force the Rams to do so?

IMO, there is NO WAY Akers gets close to 1300 yards and 12 TD's. If he is actually able to reach those numbers then he deserves whatever he can get from some other team because it sure won't be us.

The problem for Akers is that nobody wanted him last year when he pouted and wanted out and I am not sure that will change this year either.

I have said it before. I think this is Akers last year as a Ram no matter how well he plays this year. If he plays well, his ego will over value himself. He will want more than the Rams will or could pay him.

Isn't the unwritten rule nowadays that you NEVER sign a RB to a second contract? Didn't we learn that lesson with Gurley?

It's been a fun ride Cam. Good luck in your future endeavors! beer cheer smiley

#HelmetHornsMatter

“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.

“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood

With a strong 2023 season, could Cam Akers hold out in 2024?

I agree. Akers won't be a Ram next year.
